In 1975, upon instruction from his father not to return to South Africa unless he had mastered the art of winemaking, a dapper and enthusiastic Ernst Gouws travelled to Europe for a voyage of discovery and learning. During this time, he missed his childhood sweetheart, Gwenda and invited her to visit. After falling madly in love, they decided to marry there and then.

Four decades, three children and many Gouws grandchildren later, Ernst and Gwenda still run the family business alongside their three children, Ezanne, Ernst Jnr and Inke. This family enterprise collaborates with some of the most talented grape-growers in the Stellenbosch region, showcasing the very best of South African wines.

Daughter Ezanne is currently tasked with managing most of the commercial and marketing aspects of the business. Ernst oversees the production of the family’s range of wines by carefully selecting supplier vineyards and guiding the process from grape to bottle, while wife Gwenda keeps a watchful eye on the office administration.
